Turkish Drama Review | Perfect Groom (Sahane Damat)| Episode 1

Alrighty, let’s get started with this drama. I have high expectations because it has only 8 episodes which is quite rare for Turkish dizi.

Without much further ado, let’s go.

Sahane Damat Episode 1 Written Update & Review

We see and hear Melike introducing her family and her lies to us.

That’s right. She has built a life of herself in Istanbul based on lies. Her family back in Germany doesn’t know that she works on minimum wage as a horoscope writer, or that she might soon be kicked out of her rented apartment because she doesn’t pay rent on time, or that the big framed photograph of her with a famous and handsome doctor is morphed.

Melike isn’t all bad, though. She has her heart in the right place. She aspires to be a famous writer/journalist one day, writing big stories. Alas, this is only a dream. She also loves stray animals, even feeds them even though she doesn’t have money to pay her rent.

And she’s also clumsy AF.

Compulsive liar, pet lover, and clumsy, isn’t that the perfect resume for a heroine? You bet it is.

Melike is truly, madly, deeply in love with Dr Mehmet, her boss Inkur’s fiance. In other words she is in “godey godey ishq” with Mehmet. Mehmet, on the other hand, isn’t even aware of Melike’s existence. Mehmet is handsome, I agree but he smiles too much. Just because you have dimples doesn’t mean you smile unnecessarily.

Anywho, Turkey’s diva Miss Perihan is in love with Mehmet’s uncle Hayati, and she is threatening to jump off the window if her “cutie” doesn’t come. Hayati pulls Mehmet out of the surgery just so he could go and convince Perihan to not jump down the window. After some bickering, Mehmet relents.

At Melike’s news agency, the whole team is gathered around the TV screen hoping for the diva to jump so they could get a juicy story. Our dear Melike has a kind heart, and she has a yearning for a good story, so she offers to cover the story. This offer only gets her a scolding from her boss Ilknur, and gets ridiculed by her colleagues thanks to her clumsiness.

And guess what?

She goes to cover story nonetheless. Her good-natured colleague Tahsin drives her to the venue.

Once at the venue, she sees her self-claimed fiance Mehmet, and follows him into the house via rear entrance. And then she learns the truth. Cutie is none other than Hayati.

Her brother Tufan is coming to Istanbul for some concert. Naturally, Melike stops him. She couldn’t afford her family to know the truth, could she? But we know Melike now. We should be ready for a big lie to cover her older lies.

Melike comes home to a hungry cat and an empty fridge barring half an orange and near-empty carton of milk.

And that’s where the episode ends.
