Parizaad, the new HUM TV drama is based on Hashim Nadeem’s novel of the same name. For brief summary of the novel and my review of the same, read here.
The episode opens as a kid is making paperboats and Manzur’s wife is in labour.
Salim Mairaj as Manzur:
Parizaad’s father, he’s unhappy with another kid adding to his responsibility.
Mizna : Parizaad’s mother
Aamna: Parizaad’s sister
Akbar: older brother
Asghar: older brother
Four elder sisters are married.
Shoki the neighbourhood rowdy guy who likes Mirza’s daughter.
Kanwal is Naheed’s sister. She likes Parizaad. Strange!
The moment we see Ali Akbar in the screen we know that we are in for a ride – that of a terrific performance. His walk will make you feel sad, just a little with his shoulders slumped.
When the plot has so many characters with so many storylines, and the actors are handpicked.
The only good soul in Parizaad’s life is his sister Saeeda. Akbar doesn’t want Saeeda to study but
We have a non-linear narrative. One scene from Parizaad’s childhood and one from his adulthood.
Naheed’s mother asks Parizaad to tutor Naheed for a month.
The first thing that is different from the novel is that we have Majid as a nice and saleh banda who teaches the young men to follow the path of righteousness. How strange!
After the first class with Naheed, Parizaad can’t stop thinking about Naheed. She’s a beauty.
Saeeda likes Majid.
Parizaad has written a letter for Shoki and Mirza knows his handwriting as he teaches Naheed. Parizaad is mistaken for the guy who tries to jump Mirza’s terrace. Mirza knows his handwriting because he wrote an application earlier. Parizaad will be beaten black and blue.
And that’s where the episode ends.
