Parizaad, the new HUM TV drama is based on Hashim Nadeem’s novel of the same name. For brief summary of the novel and my review of the same, read here.
Let’s begin. Let’s see what the second episode brings.
Mirza comes to Parizaad’s house in the middle of the night. He also brings the entire neighbourhood with him. Mirza slaps Parizaad without even listening to his side of the story. Is isn’t always the case with us Muslims?;
Akbar also faces the embarrassment, and he takes out his frustration on Parizaad. Adnan Shah Tipu is so good in that scene, especially when he throws the stick. Broken, that’s how he felt. And us viewers feel it, too.
Both Saeeda and Kanwal know it in their hearts that it isn’t Parizaad. I love it when siblings are so freakishly awesome and kind and supportive. Mirza’s wife is also very understanding and down to earth. I like it that they aren’t showing all the characters in bad light. These scenes weren’t in such details in the novel, so I don’t feel that I am just watching the novel on the screen. Also, Shauki’s angle is also changed slightly. Like it!
Shehzad Kashmiri needs to be lauded for fine direction.
Now, let’s come to Ahmed Ali Akbar’s performance. He’s so good, so good! Watch the scene at 32:55 and 34:52. The way he holds his books and anxiously moves his fingers, uff! So real, so relatable.
This episode is the first pinch point. He will change now. Read my blog post for more details.
I have noticed a continuity problem. In one scene, Parizaad’s bhabhis say that Mirza has asked Naheed quit studies. After a few scenes, we see Mirza taking Naheed to the college. Also, when she’s leaving she is in her uniform. On the way back she’s wearing naqab. Ooh!
