Ehraam-e-Junoon | Episode 1

Before We Begin

Ehraam-e-Junoon is a 2023 Pakistani drama airing on Geo. For the first few times Youtube recommended me watching the first episode, I ignored it, but then, last night we have a power cut and I had nothing better to do, so…

The first thing that comes to mind after watching the title is obviously Wajhi Farooki‘s voice crooning

Hum Ne Bandha Hai Tere Ishq Mein Ehraam-e-Junoon

Hum Bhi Dekhenge Tamasha Tere Lailayi

And, of course, it reminded me of the memorable visuals of the song, Haroon Kadwani being the perfect obsessive lover, in Ruposh and the way he staggers. Uff, kamal gana hai.

Remember that telefilm? It was problemtic, but phenomenal, and one of my favourites.

Alright, so enough of the fangirling over Haroon Kadwani. Back to this drama, I like that one song becomes the title of another drama; Geo team is quite smart.

Without much further ado, let’s get to the show.

Introduction

“Ehraam-e-Junoon” follows the story of a young and immensely beautiful girl named Shanzay, who is filled with pride and stubbornness due to her upper-class upbringing. Shanzay believes that money can buy everything, including happiness.

Despite her high standards, Shanzay is yet to find a man who can impress her until she meets Shayan at an event. Shayan is a handsome young man from a middle-class family, who takes up a job as a pizza delivery boy to make ends meet. Shanzay who is immediately drawn to Shayan wants to provide him with a better lifestyle however, Shayan keeps his distance and refuses to accept any of Shanzay’s advances.

As the story unfolds, Shanzay and Shayan’s paths cross again and again, and Shanzay begins to question her beliefs about love and money. Will Shayan be the one to break through Shanzay’s walls of pride and stubbornness, or will she continue to chase after superficial things?

The drama serial “Ehraam-e-Junoon” promises to take viewers on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as it explores the themes of love, pride, and class differences.

Ehraam-e-Junoon Episode 1 Written Update & Review

We meet Shanzay and her family. She’s aloof and a brat who doesn’t want to even talk to her parents. Internally, though, she is disturbed by their constant bickering. Kamran never has time for his family, and he blames it all on Samiya. Samiya is the stereotypical rich woman who works for NGO but has no time for her own daughter.

Shanzay is arrogant, so much that she even tries to control her friend Ramla’s life. But Ramla is like: chal bhag.

PS: Neelum Muneer looked stunning in that red dress, but I didn’t like her eye makeup. Kuch ajeeb si feeling aa rahi thhi.

~

The Shanzay runs into Shayan, dressed in a sharp suit, and boy does he look charming. Shanzay is blown away by our hero. She drops her keys to get his attention, and when he brings the keys:

Shanzay: How many times have you tried to talk to girls like this?

Shayan: How many times have you dropped your keys like this?

Woah! Girl, you got your match!

PS: Imran Abbas looked dapper in that suit, I gotta admit.

~

Then, we meet Shayan’s family, and learn about his background. He is the older brother and works at a pizza shop to tun the house. In absense of his father (deceased), he takes care of his mother, elder sister, and younger brother. He is engaged to his cousin Sajeela but Sajeela is cold towards Shayan, because money means more than anything else. Shayan is hurt by Sajeela’s behaviour.

~

Shanzay insults Faiq for no reason, irking Ramla. This might be the end of their “friendship”. Upset, Shanzay orders pizza (pitza), and guess who brings the pizza?

Shayan, of course. No prizes for guessing.

Why did Shanzay come out to collect the pizza herself? Doesn’t she have an army of servants to do things for her? It was quite odd. Or did she just come there to gawk at the delivery boy (scold him for being late)?

Shayan still isn’t impressed by Shanzay’s stature, which impresses Shanzay even more.  Now that she has liked someone, would she get what she wants? We will see in coming episodes.

Review

First of all, let’s just admit that the lead couple is stunning. It is interesting that the three wheels of this love triangle, all have light eyes (I have a thing for light eyes). Imran and Neelum both are gorgeous. My only grouse is, I have never really liked their acting, except for Imran Abbas’ Akbar in Akbari Asghari.

Apart from that, the drama’s premise is interesting. Rich girl, poor boy, I dig these kinda stories if done well.
