Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri Complete Story (Not Revealed)
The Intro
Alright, so the moment I saw Rahat Jabeen in the credits, I knew it must be a novel to screen adaptation but I couldn’t find the novel.
And then I did.
Yesterday, when I should have ideally started watching the second episode, I started reading the novel. Partly because I was intrigued, partly because my sister was making henna patterns on my left hand and was talking nonstop. I had to humour her and watching a drama in such a situation isn’t a good experience. I have to take notes and all, you see.
The henna pattern turned out just fine, even if it took an hour to make it. I watched the episode later yesterday night, leaving the novel in the middle. I liked the episode, as you can read in my review: Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri | Episode 2.
After reviewing the episode, I came back to the novel, but it got too depressing in the middle. I didn’t want to get depressed (because a rendezvous of attending a wedding), so the mobile was pushed under the pillow and it was time for a good night sleep.
It was only 90 minutes later that I woke up for Fajr, couldn’t sleep, and then finished the novel. Now that I’m travelling to attend the wedding, I have 4 hours to kill, and drafting this post is just the right way to utilize my time.
Here’s Shabana Mukhtar presenting you with the details of Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri.
The Names
First of all, some of the names are changed. Saim remains same but Zubariya (Zaibi) becomes Zobia (Zobi), Roshane becomes Rushna. So far, other characters have the same names as the novel. The drama’s name is also different from that of the novel Titli Jaisa Pyar.
The Impact of Written Words
Even after watching the first episode, I could tell that the makers have tried to lessen the drama and heartache for screen adaptation.
The written word always has more impact, because it can pack more emotions and can tug your heartstrings even more. And yet, I noticed that the dialogues are more mellow, and the drama is less intense and some romantic scenes are watered down.
The Unjust Trimming of subplots
I also noticed that Daniyal and Rushna’s love story isn’t given much time or attention. Here’s a proof.
The “calling off the engagement” took around 10 scenes:
- Zubi talking to Daniyal
- then she tells Saim
- Rushna overhears it and scolds the duo
- Rushna argues with Daniyal
- Daniyal tells Samina
- Samina talks to Rushna and brings the ring back
- Rushna and Zubi argue
- and then finally Daniyal reprimands Rushna and Zubi both.
Okay, that’s 8. Many of these scenes showed the brilliant writing. We don’t see as many scenes in the screen adaptation and that felt like a loss.
The Subplots to Come in Future
I often notice that such dramas cut on some subplots and characters. Although, in the past, my experience is that such kaant-chhaant doesn’t do justice to the novel’s story, I really hope that this one does trim on some subplots and some characters.
This novel is long, and there are some characters and subplots that I wouldn’t want to watch. The love story could do without those. I hope the makers feel the same way and do the needful.
The Outtro
There it is, the complete story of the drama unrevealed.
Now, I have two options – abandon this drama, or continue watching it while dropping spoilers. I could also write a full story recap but I fear that people might steal that content; it has happened several times already.
So, now here I am, to give you a vague idea of what this drama will be about. I have some reservations about this being a sob fest, and I hope the makers mellow down on the intense scenes, as they have done for the first episode. But I still might it just for Khushhal Khan.
Here’s hoping that this drama is as engaging as the novel.
So long!
