Episode 4: Coke Studio Season 11

Disclaimer: This review is an opinion of a music listener. I have no musical background or technical expertise. If anybody disagrees with anything in this post… well, they will have to live with it. I can’t help them 🙂

First and foremost, I apologize for late review. I was on vacation and was travelling yesterday. I, therefore, could not view or review the episode.

Mahi Aaja

After the super-hit duet Nawazishen from season 9,  Asim Azhar and Momina Mustehsan are back with Mahi Aaja. I have listened to this song before, and the new CS#11 version only got better.I particularly liked the ‘Ni aaja’ line in between.

Both singers have very unique voice and they bring a lot of variations in their vocals and singing. Superbly done.

Both have performed brilliantly. !

Rating: 4/5 stars.

Atish

The winning duo of Season 10 – Banware, Shuja Haidar and Aima Baig, are back with this song. This is a good song. The lyrics are good. The tune is innocently naughty.

Shuja’s voice leaves a lasting effect. Aima is okay. The backup vocalist shine in this one. I just felt they were acting more than singing. It is no match to ‘Banware’.

Rating: 3.5/5 stars.

Nami Danam

First time on Coke Studio, the ‘Chand Tara Orchestra’ band performed on the classic Persian poem by legendary Khwaja Usman Harooni.

The vocals are good. I like the tune as well. This song would have been another one that I would play repeatedly, if only there was no or very little music. I think the loud music just killed the essence of this otherwise beautiful composition.

Rating: 3/5 stars.

Other observations:

  • This season the focus seems to be more on video. I am talking about the Mahi Aa ja. Towards the end, both Aasim and Momina pull out the microphone and sing facing each other. That was so perfectly shot. It reminded me of the last song by Demi Lovato with Joe Jonas in Camp Rock.
  • Momina has lost weight. Or did she just give to Aima? Aima has gotten fat. I liked her when she was slim. Her voice is the same, I know. Just saying.

My favourite from all three episodes is Ghoom Charakhra and Roye Roye now.

What did you guys think of third episode?  Please do leave comments.

Happy weekend to all!
