Doctor Bahu | Episode 22

Dr. Bahu explores the theme of quiet control hidden behind progressive appearances. In a respected family of doctors, their youngest non-doctor son is married to a doctor—adding another accomplished daughter-in-law to a household where women are not allowed to work.

When the youngest daughter-in-law enters this world, she begins to challenge the unspoken rules, subtly shifting power and exposing buried hypocrisies.

Writer: Sanam Mehdi Zaryab.
Directed by: Mehreen Jabbar.

Doctor Bahu Episode 22 Written Update and Review

I don’t know what happened but for the last two weeks YouTube showed only one episode of Dr Bahu, episode 19 on May 30, and episode 20 on June 6. I thought perhaps the channel has changed their broadcast timings. Today, I’m seeing episode 23. So, I clearly missed one episode both weeks. Or the channel isn’t posting videos on time. Or somehow the episodes are wrongly numbered. Whatever it is, it means I need to review three episodes now. Yaar! Imagine all the traffic I missed because of this late discovery.

First, I watched episode 20 again to see if I need to recall anything. I hadn’t watched that episode. If I had, I completely have forgotten. Then, I watched episode 21. The review that has been live on my blog for episode 20 was actually for episode 21. I have rectified the mistake now. And the episode I’m about to watch now, is episode 22.

I’m sorry for all the confusion. I don’t know what’s happening.

Okay, so, let’s get to episode 22.

Salman’s business is doing so poorly that they might need to sell out. At least that’s what the business partner suggests. As is the case with Salman, he immediately resorts to taana tishna.

Tum ne business ke naam pe aiyaashi ki hai.

Business partner loses his temper as well.

I’m not spending my energy on proving my father wrong.

Slow clap. Bhai, sau sunaar ki ek lohaar ki. Uska ek hi taana Salman ke saare taanoN pe bhari thha.

But this isn’t what I was interested in. I wanted to see Mina, how she surfaces from this storm.

When she comes home, Faizan pretend to be all worried: “we all were calling you, you weren’t even picking up your phone.”

She ignores Faizan. But can she ignore her pain? She can’t. When she sits on the staircase, tired, exhausted, my heart went out to her. Hajra Yamin is so good in this scene, and in this drama, actually. And her curls! Uff, Allah! If I ever wanted curls, it should be like hers.

The next morning, when she sees Farheen making breakfast, she just loses it. She calls kut Farheen for making the men of the house so privileged. How does Farheen reply?

Farheen: why are you talking like Saniya?
Mina: because Saniya was right.

Her lecture works, Farheen leaves the kitchen. Dekhte kab tak chalta aise.

Mina gives Faizan an ultimatum and when he doesn’t follow through, she breaks the news to Shahnawaz and Farheen.

Review
Why was this whole episode so poorly lot? All sets, all rooms, everywhere it was dark. Bright karein. Story is already dark. Thoda dekhne bhar ka ujala toh ho.

It wasn’t a good experience to see Adeel Hussain portraying this spineless man Faizan but he’s a good actor and is doing a fine job.

I have said this before, at least thought about it several times, for a doctor and an entrepreneur who are quite old, both Saniya and Salman are very immature. They weren’t suitable to get married, not to each other, not even at all. They are both childish, pange-baaz heroine and phadde-baaz hero, and they keep fighting. I have had enough of their shitty marriage.

But…

We’re not writing off this drama yet. Because just when I thought I don’t like much in this drama and can do without it, the writers do something that makes me stay. First, it was Saniya narattogn the frog story. It’s not favorite and I have shared it multiple times on this blog. And today, it was again Saniya, who quoted one of my favourite lines (paraphrase of Quran verse): Allah’s plans are better than our plans.
