Recap

Okay, so this one is about Heffley family on a road trip.

Review

I started the month with Tayari Jones’ An American Marriage, but it was too slow, just as I expected an award-winning book to be. So, tired of the reading slump, I picked up another book from my October 2026 TBR that was guaranteed to be quick and entertaining: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul.

At first, it helped. It really helped, and I got through 40% of the book in one sitting. But then I took a break. After mistakenly reading some work messages, I lost my cool and wanted to grab someone and wring their neck until they died.

And then I resumed reading the book. Boy, what bad timing! The story just got annoying (always thanks to Susan Heffley), disgusting (always thanks to Manny), and full of the usual shenanigans of the Heffley family. I saw the final twist coming from a mile away, so that was another disappointment.

It’s a shame that what started as a promising break from my reading slump turned into another exercise in patience. The series usually delivers enough laughs to make up for its ridiculous characters, but this time, even the humour couldn’t save the story for me.

Final Thoughts

Not the worst book in the series, but certainly not one I’d rush to revisit.

Stay tuned for more book reviews.

Until next time, happy reading!
