Continuing from the end of previous episode, Abu Bakar gets a message from Zamil, Zaryab’s forwarded voice message where she says:

Zamil to Abu Bakar: Tum mein ghairat naam ki chiz ho toh tum uss se nikaah karne nahin jaoge.

Zamil’s Toxicity

As Zamil steps out of the room, Hamna is there to

Zamil to Hamna: How dare you? How dare you take Zaryab’s name?

And that’s just the beginning. Zamil goes from 0 to 100 in a nanosecond, blames everything on Hamna and her parents’ tarbiyat. Typical toxic man. I half -wished Hamna to talk about Abu Bakar. Kitna mazaa aata, ni?

The Dilemma

Abu Bakar plays the message for Khushbakht.

Abu Bakar: Ammi main yeh nikaah kar sakta, nahin kar sakta yeh qurbani. Main uss ke maazi ki baat nahin kar raha Ammi lekin uss ke haal pe sawaal karne ka haq hai mujhe.

And then comes a long pause.

Khushbakht: Main inkaar kar deti hoon, bete.
Abu Bakar: Inkaar main karunga.

At Zaryab’s place, the family is waiting. Nikaahkhwan has come. Habib calls Abu Bakar but Abu Bakar couldn’t say no.

Abu Bakar: Thodi der mein pahunch jayenge.

Ek thodi si bemurawwati nahin dikha saka and his life is ruined. Khushbakht apologizes to Abu Bakar. Very emotional scene.

Also notice that in this frame, the only distraction is ARY’s logo. Compare that with any other drama, especially Hum TV. there are at least four logos in four corners, sometimes, two overlapping in the bottom left cornor. I never thought I’d appreciate something about ARY but kudos for not cluttering the screen.

The Nikaah

Zamil learns from Shakur that Abu Bakar has come, and he collapses. After some dramatic long pauses, Zaryab says yes to the nikaah, around 4:10 PM. Matlab itna drama hone ke baad bhi waqt se pehle hi nikaah ho gaya?

After that, we see the four characters weeping and/or quietly suffering for hours.

Abu Bakar also took forever to say qubool hai, because earlier drama wasn’t enough.

Zaryab is brought in (what did Abu Bakar notice in Zaryab? Her necklace? Her feet?) and she sits like a mannequin, looking at the wall clock, Abu Bakar notices this. Abu Bakar’s forced smile and internal turmoil both were visible.

The Aftermath

Abu Bakar talks to Habib, returns the expensive gifts. On the other hand, Khushbakht and Kishwar Jahan talk about Khushbakht’s abba. Khushbakht touches the necklace her abba made, the necklace Khushbakht’s father had made.

The episode ends as Zaryab is coming down, and Abu Bakar are climbing the stairs. The face-off somehow reminded me of Zindagi Gulzaar Hai (Probably because I had a lucid dream about ZGH, some different scenes in the canon, will share later) and I loved it. What Zaryab asked, I couldn’t understand even after replaying the scene four times. Enunciation escapes Durre, I guess.

Review

Nice episode, quite slow and had to skip through several scenes but BGM ne dimaagh pilpila kar diya. I mean… Like even without loud BGM, the viewer can distinguish regular scnee from intense scenes. Music daal ke hamari sama’at ko barbaad karne ki kya zaroorat hai bhai jaan?
