Mitti De Baway Episode 4 Written Update and Review
Salaamu!
Flashback
Alright so we start with another flashback. Billo says qubool hai, the maulvi gets up immediately and leaves, the dupatta used as a purdah is immediately folded. Then we hear gunshots. Several. Non-stop. Malik, another guy after Billo has come…and shoots Billo’s younger brother. Later, older brother tells Billo: don’t come back to our house.
The Proposal
In present, actually middle of the storyline that is 1996, Iqbal brings his brother’s proposal for Nausheen. Shah saab fakes humility and boasts that they don’t marry off their daughters outside of family. Iqbal is like: okay.
But Nazeer stops Iqbal.
Bahen betiyon ke bahot huqooq hote hain. Allah ne sirf namaz rozon ka hisaab nahin lena. Main Allah ke saamne surkhroo hona chahta hoon. Apni zimmedari nibhaana chahta hoon.
At the same time, Nausheen seeks Billo’s help for the proposal. Billo goes out, announces:
Gardgi bajane wali maan ka bhand marasi beta hai yeh.
Neither Nazeer nor FIL asks her how she knows this.
The scenes cut to Nazeer pushing iqbal out. I was like, Bhai baat aaraam se bhi ho sakti hai. But most important part is the triumph on Billo’s face.
Abhi in the previous episode, she begged Iqbal to not ruin her life and her own revenge is so catastrophic. I echo the same sentiments from episode 3. Billo makes me feel yuck.
Billo (to herself): Ab jalan thodi kam huyi hai.
I watched this episode yesterday but couldn’t get myself to post about it, and I think it’s good. I have an anecdote to share now. My brother has his Tarjuma-e-Quran exams on Sunday, and he started preparing today (because why prepare when there’s enough time?) and he was practicing with my older sister (she finished her alema course 25 years ago). They started with Surah Al-A’raf and soon reached the “nikalna khuld se aadam” wala qissa. Iblees didn’t bow to Adam because he thought “main to aag se bana hoon, I’m better than him, main isko sajda nahin karunga.” I paraphrase of course, let me find the verse.
“He said, ‘I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.’“
And this takabbur is why he’s Iblees, mal’oon and rajeem. And what this Shah family did after saying “hum takabbur nahin karte”? I think we, as ummat-e-Islam, should watch our takabbur, it’d solve most of our problems.
Okay, anecdote/preaching is over.
The Aftermath
Achhi is ready to observe sabr but Iqbal isn’t. Iqbal wants revenge, nahin to story kaise aage badhegi na. He first pays the kaffara for breaking his qasm (bete ki qasm khayi thha na ki woh maazi ko kisi ke saamne nahin layega). Then, he drives ro mirtanwali and makes dua ar his parents’ qabr. Then he goes to wazeer abad to strike a deal with Masi Phatan.
Nausheen’s Future
Nazeer and Shah Saab decide Nausheen’s future, to marry her off to an old uncle with two grownup kids. Nausheen protests meekly but who’ll listen to her? While the whole conversation is going on, bilqees is sitting on musalla, reciting tasbeeh and wazaif.
I like how the writer (and the director) are showing that people with most pious facade are often the most impious, profane and almost heinous inside.
Nausheen confronts Bilqees.
Allah ka khauf karein bhabhi. Janamaz pe baithi hain aap. Allah ko na takabbur pasand hai na zaat paat.
Bilqees still lectures Nausheen as if she’s the most pious person on earth. Some nice lines, but not worth repeating.
Review
Second of all, Anika ne bahot hi kharaab acting hai bhai. Bilkul bhi dialogues bolte nahin aaye usko. First of all, Samia Mumtaz letting go of ALL vanity in this scene, loved her.
The storyline is so freaking predictable so far. Although I’ve drafted the posts for this drama, hoping to be able to watch it, I don’t have high hopes.
