It’s been almost a year since I started browsing worthing.in collection. After the locked bookshelf fiasco, I couldn’t resist the temptation and ordered a lot.
So, here goes, My Big Fat ₹1,299 Book Haul…
More like a love story with foxing and fate…
The Timeline of Temptation
It all began on June 25. I was in my bed, and wanted to hold a book that I read. So, I added this lot to my cart and checked out. After four failed attempt at payment (Gpay was a bit flaky that night), my order was placed.
Despite their promise to dispatch the order in a day or two, I had to remind them twice about my order. And it took them a week to finally get to me. Apparently, they has some comics sale going on. But hey, I’m also a customer, aren’t I?
On July 1, they shared a photo of the exact pile I would be getting.
It looked alright, but wasn’t quite what I had expected. You see, they promised all fiction books.
The pile has non-fiction books as well, but I wasn’t going to be very picky.
The parcel was dispatched on July 2.
And I got it on July 8.
1️⃣ Despite their promise to dispatch the order in a day or two, I had to remind them twice about my order. And it took them a week to finally get to me. Apparently, they had some comics sale going on. But hey, I’m also a customer, aren’t I?
2️⃣ On July 1, they shared a photo of the exact pile I would be getting. It looked alright, but wasn’t quite what I had expected. You see, they promised all fiction books. The pile has non-fiction books as well, but I wasn’t going to be very picky.
3️⃣ The parcel was dispatched on July 2. And I got it on July 8. So it took 15 days to get the books, which is quite a wait if you’re excited.
4️⃣ They gave me 10 bookmarks, not 15 as promised.
5️⃣ The books have foxing and molding — not in the condition I expected. I HAVE bought preloved books before, and they never stunk this bad.
6️⃣ There were no ultra-popular authors like Jeffrey Archer, Sidney Sheldon, or Lee Child (in the new additions), so if you’re looking for big mainstream names, you might feel a bit disappointed.
7️⃣ The lot included a mix of genres: thrillers, romance, literary fiction, historical fiction, self-help, and even children’s books. So it’s more of a surprise “mixed bag” than a curated fiction-only collection.
8️⃣ Also, Artemis by Andy Weir (author of The Martian) is a science fiction novel. The Polish edition is called “Artemis” as well, but all the text inside is in Polish. This should have been the first point in the list, but I’m not going to change the order now.
9️⃣ A few titles are by desi authors, and I’m not big on desi authors. I’m not saying these authors are bad. It’s just that the previous few surprise box by desi authors proved to be quite unreadable.
🔟 Overall, while it was not a “steal deal,” it still adds a decent variety to a home library if you’re open-minded and not looking for pristine copies or very famous authors only.
Final Verdict
Would I recommend a book haul from worthing.in?
I don’t know. It’s risky. They promise a lot but won’t really deliver.
But if you’re someone who loves surprises, embraces imperfections, and values the story more than the shine — absolutely yes.
For me, it turned out to be a ₹1,299 gamble.
What’s Next?
With 159 English books on the shelf, only 40 of which are read, I am sure I am not succumbing to the temptation of another surprise book box haul.
Tell me: Would you ever do a big, risky book haul like this?
Until next time, happy reading!
