Fake Engagement Mistake: Small Town Christian Romcom Novella (Bachelors of Clear Creek Book 1)

Paul agrees to a fake proposal with his friend’s younger sister, Becca to appease her parents instead of sending her to college. As as teen, he often annoyed her, but now the five year age gap between them doesn’t seem so big. How they see each other changes when they’re forced to spend more time together.

When Becca suggests they kiss to convince the locals that the relationship is real, she gets way more than she bargains for.

Prequel Novella to the Christian Romcom series set in Clear Creek County, but a complete story in itself.

Sweet and Clean plus lots of kissing!

Next novel in the series is Fake Identity Mistake.

A Brief yet Sweet Escape: Unpacking Lisa Renee’s ‘Fake Engagement Mistake'”

Non-review Rant

This is my sixth book in September 2023, call me crazy, eh? I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to keep up with this pace, though. And therefore, this review is coming up in November 2023.

Recap

Becca wants to stay home and keep her job while her parents want her to move out to a different city. There is only one thing she could do to change their mind–show that she is engaged to the perfect man in the town-Paul.

And she does that.

What follows is a charade of pretence to get noticed by everyone in the town. It doesn’t help that they both have crush on each other for the longest time.

Review

In the vast landscape of romance literature, novellas often face the daunting task of delivering a satisfying narrative within a limited number of pages. “Fake Engagement Mistake” by Lisa Renee is one such novella, clocking in at a mere 65 pages. Yet, despite this brevity, it manages to navigate the complex waters of the “fake relationship trope” with a surprising level of finesse.

Exploring the Fake Relationship Trope

The “fake relationship trope” is a beloved staple of romance novels, and Lisa Renee dives into this narrative device with commendable dexterity. Within the confines of a novella, she skillfully sets the stage for a pretend engagement that promises humor, chemistry, and a touch of unpredictability. The brevity of the story is both a challenge and a boon, as it requires a quick setup and development of the central premise.

Meet Paul – The Sweetest Guy in Novella Land

Ah, Paul, the male lead of this charming tale! It’s not often that a character leaves such a lasting impression in a novella, but Paul manages to do just that. He emerges as the quintessential “nice guy” of romance fiction, exuding kindness, sincerity, and an endearing awkwardness that’s bound to melt even the coldest of hearts. In a genre often filled with brooding bad boys, Paul’s sweet and genuine demeanor is a breath of fresh air.

A Tidy Conclusion to the Month’s Reading Spree

As the final chapter of my month’s reading spree, “Fake Engagement Mistake” provides a satisfying and light-hearted conclusion. It’s the literary equivalent of a cozy cup of tea on a rainy day—a brief yet heartwarming experience that leaves you with a contented smile. The novella serves as a reminder that, sometimes, a short and sweet story can be the perfect antidote to the complexities of longer narratives.

In the world of novellas, where brevity is both a challenge and an art form, “Fake Engagement Mistake” manages to carve out its own niche. It embraces the “fake relationship trope” with grace, introduces readers to a genuinely lovable character in Paul, and offers a delightful way to wrap up a month of reading adventures. It may be short, but it’s proof that sometimes, good things do come in small packages.

So, here’s to Lisa Renee’s novella—a brief yet sweet escape into the world of romance, where even the shortest stories can leave a lasting impression. Cheers to the power of storytelling, no matter the page count! 📚❤️✨
