Book Review | SUMMER UNPLUGGED| Amy Sparling

Book Description

Bayleigh is addicted to her cell phone and her mom has had enough. After catching her sending a less than lady-like photo to a boy who barely knows her, Bayleigh’s mom sends her away to her grandparent’s house for the summer–sans cell phone, laptop and Ipod. Bayleigh thinks the summer will be torture without social media…that is until she meets the boy next door.

Author’s Profile

Amy Sparling is the bestselling author of books for teens and the teens at heart. She lives on the coast of Texas with her family, her spoiled rotten pets, and a huge pile of books. She graduated with a degree in English and has worked at a bookstore, coffee shop, and a fashion boutique. Her fashion skills aren’t the best, but luckily she turned her love of coffee and books into a writing career that means she can work in her pajamas. Her favorite things are coffee, book boyfriends, and Netflix binges.

She’s always loved reading books from R. L. Stine’s Fear Street series, to The Baby Sitter’s Club series by Ann, Martin, and of course, Twilight. She started writing her own books in 2010 and now publishes several books a year.

Plot Summary & Review

Amy Sparling sets up for a nice sweet romance in this first of series novella – Summer Unplugged.

Becca’s story – Summer Unplugged also introduces us to Bayleigh, her best friend who is sent off to Salt Gap to her grandparents because she’s grounded. That’s why Becca is alone in first place.

This story is about Bayleigh. We learn about her background, why she’s grounded and stuff… and we also see some overlap with Summer Unplugged. Then, Bayleigh and us, we meet the handsome man next door – Jace.

Oh, and he’s also a racer at the motorcross. All the guys are crazy about dirt bikes. What’s that about?

This story is just as sweet and short as the other two stories by Amy Sparling: Bella and the New Guy  and Summer Unplugged.

What bothed me a little was that Bayleigh was mad at her sort of boyfriend Ian who cheated on her with Stacia. But, she is totally flirting with Jace. Don’t have dual standards, girl.

Apart from that, it was a fun and quick read.

So long…
