Jurm | Episode 1

Introduction

Jurm is a thrilling drama series that follows the journey of Ayla and Daniyal, a newlywed couple whose lives are turned upside down by a traumatic kidnapping incident. This sets off a chain of events that exposes the vulnerability of their family and those associated with them.

With each episode, Jurm takes viewers on a rollercoaster ride of shocking revelations and unexpected twists. The families are torn apart as their secrets, lies and duality is revealed. The investigation of the incident becomes increasingly complex as each family member’s dubious past is brought to the forefront.

As the tension builds, relationships are tested, alliances are formed and broken, and everyone becomes a suspect. With each passing episode, the stakes get higher, and the truth becomes harder to uncover.

Will justice be served, or will the family’s web of lies and deceit be enough to cover up the crime?

Jurm Episode 1 Written Update & Review

Assalam Alaikum, fellow drama enthusiasts! It’s Shabana Mukhtar, and I’m here to begin reviewing another drama on Har Pal Geo.  I’m not too thrilled about this drama and I might give it a 3-episodes test. The first episode has left me wondering if this is worth my time.

Without much further ado, let’s start with a recap and review of “Jurm.” So, let’s get started!

We meet the characters, you can see it here: Jurm | Cast and Characters

Daniyal and Ayla are celebrating something. Daniyal gifts Ayla a bracelet; they go out for dinner, and then head out to a tea stall. This tea stall is special because this is where Ayla used to have tea with her father Nadeem, you know, before her parents separated. Daniyal orders tea even for the driver, making Hameed feel grateful, I guess (or guilty, in retrospect). While they wait for tea, two people get into the car.

They are car-jacked.

The driver is taken away and then a gunshot is heard, presumably killing the driver. Ayla is taken away while Daniyal is beaten black and blue. The police finds Daniyal, but Ayla is nowhere to be found.

Now, we see Daniyal’s family putting half-assed efforts in finding Ayla. It seems that Majeed is less worried and more irritated about the whole incident. Every time Naseema says something, Majeed is pissed off. Also, Samia seems to have a lot of influence over this household, even though she’s just a CEO.

Later, we see that Ayla had almost escaped the kidnappers but then caught again… By Hameed.

And that was the episode.

My Theory

This might be Majeed’s doing. I mean, he doesn’t like Ayla and Naseema. It could be his attempt to be rid of Ayla, with Samia’s and Hameed’s help in the matter. And, they will pin it all on Daniyal, because he was the one who took Ayla to that secluded tea stall. The premise is interesting, isn’t it?

Intriguing Premise

Jurm is a thrilling drama series that follows the journey of Ayla and Daniyal, a newlywed couple whose lives are turned upside down by a traumatic kidnapping incident. This sets off a chain of events that exposes the vulnerability of their family and those associated with them.

While the premise is interesting, the cast isn’t fit for the story, in my opinion. But I know one thing for sure, this will drive people crazy because of Wahaj.

Direction

Mehreen Jabbar is helming the project, and I have full faith in her direction. Having seen Dobara Phir Se, Doraha, Daam, Jackson Heights, and Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu; I’m kinda fan of hers. I am sure this story has complex characters and nuanced story-telling.

Nonlinear Narrative

The story is told in a nonlinear fashion, and it works for most part. I’m not a big fan of nonlinear narrative because I have had an overdose of the same thanks to a certain writer I read often. As I said, the nonlinear narrative works for most part, but if it continues, it is going to give me headache; if I watch this drama, that is.

The Leads

I like Durefishan but in this drama I felt that she should have lost some weight. I also didn’t like her wardrobe choices. She looked stunning in her last outing as Mahek in Kaisi Teri Khudgharzi. But that’s just my opinion. I’ve always liked Tooba, whatever little I have seen of her. She’s the main villain in the story, and I’m sure she would pull it off really well.

Now, on to the current trending topic of desi drama enthusiasts-Wahaj Ali. Wahaj is winning our hearts and stealing our sleeps with his performance as Murtasim in Tere Bin. And, that was the biggest reason for me to watch this episode. I know, Wahaj is still the same actor who gives it all, but the Daniyal’s characters seemed to lack the spark that comes with Murtasim. I might be judging too quickly, so I will wait for the next couple of episodes before giving a final verdict on Wahaj’s performance.

Verdict

I’m kinda on the fence on this one, but will give it a 3-episodes test.
