Pehli Barish Episode 2 Written Update and Review
The Heartbroken Mother
Dania is sitting alone, weeping about Maani when Nawal comes to console her. She feels Maani is responsible for Dania’s pain. Ruby overhears this conversation and later admonishes Nawal to stay out of it. It’s not clear what happened between Behzad and Dania but apparently she was the one to seek separation and that’s why Hamza is sharminda even today and doesn’t meet Behzad very often. Did she cheat on Behzad or something?
I have noticed something about Hajra Yamin (other than that she’s a terrific actor and had damn expressive eyes): she doesn’t look vulgar in western outfits.
I mean… almost all leading pakistani actresses (and even non-leading ones) have a very western way of living. Some carry it well, some don’t but nothing stops them from donning designer western outfits. Hajra is the one of those rare actresses who carry it really well and she doesn’t look cheap.
The Old Couple
Behzad goes to the railway station to pick up Sakeena Bua and runs into Maleeha, apparently after all these years. The sequence that followed was part-dialogue, part-head talk and a lot of just gazing at the other person. I realized that people are tado-ing a lot in this drama, which makes sense in some scenes but gets a bit much very soon. Repeating myself from first episode that when Maani looks at Nimra, it feels like he’s really into her. Aijaz bhai and Samiya aapa is also acting nicely but their gazing is too prolonged.
The Triangle
Okay, so I stand corrected. This episode shows, plenty, that Nimra knows how Nawal feels about Maani, and how Maani feels about Nimra herself.
“I will never come between you two,” she says.
And there are several variations of the same conversation. Kabhi phone pe (when they were both wearing the exact same shade of green), kabhi face-to-face (when they were too close for my comfort). In one instance, Nawal catches them together (this comes after Nawal creates a scene with a class-fellow about seats, woh class-fellow wapas usi jagah aakar baith gayi thhi, hehe).
And that’s where the episode ended: Nawal stunned to see Nimra and Maani together.
P.S. This is the first section I wrote, realized that I should have put this section last, felt too lazy to move it but eventually caved. Sequence matters to me. Non-linear narratives I can read and enjoy, but can’t write it.
Review
I don’t think I have much left to say in this section separately. I said what I had to say. Now be off. I need to watch something silly to keep me distrated and tire me so I can fall asleep.
