Dear Diary | 1447 AH | Day 354

Zul Qa’da 29, 1447 AH

You all know about my hoarding habit, right? I have a notebook that I have been using since 2022. At first, I used it to track qaza-e-umri. Then, it became an idea-dumping ground, of all the dreams, stories that I feel are worth writing and sharing.

Then, slowly, the back of this notebook became a to-do list, because I love making to-do lists and crossing items off. Kinda therapeutic and fulfilling to see a list being crossed off entirely. I would also occasionally write “hisaab” to settle the money matters between me and my sister. It’s a matter of principle, money is not important, but settling hisaab is, because Allah says so.

The said notebook drowned twice in water last week. Sigh!

I switched on the water purifier: it’s the kind that uses 20 litres of water to give one glass of purified water. The drain pipe was not placed inside the sink and…

Long story short, the whole kitchen platform was flooded, and that’s where my notebook was kept. Before you ask why my notebook was there, let me tell you, this kitchen is defunct and I use kitchen platform as work-table at times. especially during summers because the fan is right in the middle and I can sit here without breaking a lot of sweat.

It took two days to dry out the notebook, not much damage done.

Once should be fine, right?

It happened again, just the next day. The notebook had barely dried, and it got soaked again. Now, many a pages are smudged, the writing barely visible, and the notebook is twice as thick, with the pages spotted, curved and sticky.

I now have a new project, to digitize this notebook or lose all my ideas. I’m going to need a few weeks off from work to do this.

Sigh!
