Drama Review | Qissa Meherbano Ka | Episode 1

Let’s review the latest episode of Qissa Meherbano Ka. It’s based on Fakhra Jabeen’s short story Ujalon Ki Basti. You can read the story here, and my review is here. The drama is quite different from the story itself, so don’t be disheartened by my review even if it has some spoilers.

Directed by Iqbal Hussain & Written by Fakhra Jabeen, Qissa Meherbano Ka is a new Hum TV series that started airing on Saturday.

Qissa Meherbano Ka Episode 1 Written Review

We meet the titular character as the muazzan calls for Fajr, and we see Mehrbano wake up. That’s my first grouse with the opening sequence. I said the same when Meenu woke up with a lot of bracelets and perfectly curled hair. Here is Mehrbano with perfectly combed hair with not a hair out of place. When us mere mortals wake up, our hair look like a nest.

Oh, and i think she’s wearing a wig. Her real hair is gorgeous. This one looks poofy and unreal.

Then we meet Noor, Mehrbano’s neice. She’s a brat, a bit too loud, and… well… I didn’t like her. And what’s with her lenses? I think she has brown eyes.

Both families live in an estate. Professor has jewellery and some cash but he refuses to spend that on the expenses. How they run this giant house is still unclear. Also, how does Mehrbano keeps the house clean. She doesn’t have any house-help and, Noor is of no help.  Here I am. I get tired sweeping my little apartment.

Then, we meet Mehran, Jr Noman Ejaz. He resembles his father, a lot. And, he has a nice voice. In the first episode, his acting was flawless. He’s confident in front of camera, I guess.

Mehran likes Mehrbano, and Mehrbano doesn’t reciprocate to his advances, for reasons we will learn later.

Mehran’s sister, Tara, is getting married. It means that Noor has a constant reason to bicker with her grandfather for money. I get that she’s shown to be a impatient young girl, but I find her annoying. Nice character build up, though. No matter how mean she is to Professor, she’s nice with Mehrbano.

Mehran’s mother, Mehrbano’s chachi, doesn’t like Mehrbano. I guess she doesn’t hate our heroine. It’s just that she doesn’t want her son to be after someone who, in her own words, is “neither shaadi shuda nor kunwari.”

I think Mehrbano is nikaah shuda for the past ten years. Her husband is missing. Oh, and for some reason her brother has also ran away.

I think it has to do with Professor’s stern ways.

We’ll know more in the next episode.

Parting Thoughts

I think too much has happened in one episode. We see some people, we learn their motivation in life, we see some people who have disappeared. A lot has happened. I think it’s a good sign. I like fast paced dramas over the ones that drag forever.

Why all locations are tagged? If they showed it once, for the first time, it would have been fine but they show it every time as I’d someone is writing a script and mentioning the setting.

Anywho! I don’t want to watch it. Correction-I didn’t want to watch because of Ahsan Khan. I don’t like him, but then it wouldn’t be fair to Mawra because I like her.

So long!
