Pencils At Dawn | A Short Story With Almost No Romance

Non-review Rant

This is book #8 in September 2023. I’m on a roll.

Recap

Jake and Ami, two coworkers who are always trying to one-up the other. They don’t get along, but their boss Sandra and their team thinks otherwise.  After a disastrous client meeting, Sandra asks them to learn to behave or move to another team. They are also located in an almost-dysfunctional tiny meeting room 5A.

Jake and Ami come up with an idea to prove that they are

Review

It’s a short story and I can’t demand that everything work out at a slow pace, but there was no romance. Whatever we “see” between Jake and Ami is that they can’t live without argument. They look after each other, bring beverage for the other, remind to eat lunch on time, and accompany each other as +1 on social events; this is all “told” to us as Sandra  (the boss) explains to Ellen (the new team member) why she is meddling. The meddling goes so far that even HR has to step in and warn Sandra. I was like, wow!

If I had a boss like Sandra, I would quit my job right away, even if there was a Jake for my Ami.

I don’t hate the book. The humour is on point, the lack of romance is what made this a dud for me.
