Reason for Choosing the Show
I’m a huge FRIENDS fan.
About the Show
- Platform: NBC (spin-off of FRIENDS)
- Genre: Sitcom / Comedy
- Language / Country: English / USA
- Seasons: 2 (discontinued)
My One-Line Takeaway
A warm, likeable spin-off that surprised me — not perfect, but far better than many shows that continued for years without any real spark.
What It’s About
After moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting, Joey Tribbiani starts fresh — new city, new neighbours, new friendships, and a different life beyond the FRIENDS world.
The show explores his career struggles, small victories, relationships, and the gentle humour that follows him wherever he goes.
Characters
- Joey Tribbiani
Familiar, lovable, goofy — kinder and more grounded than expected, still carrying his signature charm. - Gina (Joey’s sister)
Loud, dramatic, protective — adds warmth and strong family energy. - Michael
Smart, awkward, lovable — a wonderful contrast to Joey’s personality. - Alex
Sophisticated, composed, gradually softens — subtle dynamics with Joey. - Zack
Felt like an add-on — didn’t blend as naturally with the rest of the cast.
I absolutely loved everyone except Zack — the rest of the characters felt real, warm, and memorable.
My Review / Thoughts
I know the show wasn’t continued — but I still watched it because FRIENDS was the first sitcom I ever watched… and re-watched… for years.
Watching Joey reminded me of that obsession.
My introduction to FRIENDS was accidental — I bought an old desktop computer from a senior who was upgrading. Laptops weren’t a trend back then. And once I discovered the show… uff. It became a part of my life.
Now that I look back, I realise I started watching it not very long after it first became a thing. And now, after almost a decade and a half of loving FRIENDS, I finally watched Joey.
And honestly — I loved it.
Not just Joey — the entire cast had heart. It felt warm, familiar, and comforting.
I was genuinely disappointed that it wasn’t continued. I think it was alright — in fact, much better than many shows that run for several seasons with no spark left in them.
Anywho — not my decision. Now the actors are older and another spin-off is out of the question… but if there ever was one, I’d be game.
What I Liked
- Warm, emotional comfort-watch vibe
- Joey written with more softness and growth
- Strong supporting characters (Gina, Michael, Alex)
- Gentle humour instead of loud absurdity
- Nostalgia layered with new dynamics
What Didn’t Work for Me
- Zack felt unnecessary and disconnected
- The show wasn’t given enough time to grow
Viewing Experience
- Heartwarming and easy to binge
- Familiar without copying FRIENDS
- A comforting extension of a beloved character
Favourite Character / Element
Jimmy, he came in late but overpowered every other character, except of course Joey, the OG charmer.
Who Should Watch It
- Anyone who loved Joey in FRIENDS
- Viewers who enjoy soft, character-driven comedy
- People okay with a quieter, simpler sitcom vibe
Not ideal for viewers looking for big laughs or chaos-style humour.
My Rating
⭐ 4.8 / 5 — heartfelt, underrated, and unfairly discontinued
Final Thoughts
Joey may not have been iconic like FRIENDS, but it had heart. It was warm, kind, and quietly funny — and I genuinely wish it had been given a real chance to continue.
I’d watch more in a heartbeat… if only it existed.
So long.
