Kung Fu Panda

These movies are and were part of my weekend binge and therefore very close to my heart. The purpose of these reviews are not to criticize any aspect of this movie. I just want to put it out there. This is the kind of cinema I like.

 I am reviewing it based on my memories of 2014 when me and my sister watched it every Saturday for lunch.

Cast & Characters

1. Po: Voiced by Jack Black, Po is an overweight and clumsy panda who dreams of becoming a kung fu master.

2. Master Shifu: Voiced by Dustin Hoffman, Shifu is the strict and wise red panda who trains the Furious Five and reluctantly takes on Po as a student.

3. Tai Lung: Voiced by Ian McShane, Tai Lung is a snow leopard and former student of Shifu who seeks to steal the Dragon Scroll for ultimate power.

4. The Furious Five: A group of skilled kung fu warriors consisting of Tigress (voiced by Angelina Jolie), Monkey (voiced by Jackie Chan), Mantis (voiced by Seth Rogen), Viper (voiced by Lucy Liu), and Crane (voiced by David Cross).

5. Oogway: Voiced by Randall Duk Kim, Oogway is the wise tortoise and kung fu master who has the ability to foresee events.

6. Mr. Ping: Voiced by James Hong, Mr. Ping is Po’s adoptive father and the owner of a noodle shop.

Plot Summary

In the Valley of Peace, Po, an enthusiastic yet clumsy panda, dreams of being a kung fu master like his idols, the Furious Five. When a prophecy reveals that the Dragon Warrior will be chosen to defeat the formidable Tai Lung, Po’s life takes an unexpected turn. Against all odds, Po is selected as the Dragon Warrior, much to everyone’s disbelief.

Master Shifu reluctantly takes Po under his wing, attempting to train him in kung fu. Amidst hilarious training sessions and self-doubt, Po discovers that his unique qualities, including his love for food, can be strengths. As the threat of Tai Lung’s return looms, Po must rise above his insecurities and harness his potential to defend the valley.

This movie is special because I had just come back from a short 6 months’ stay in Vancouver, I was moved to a new team and things were NEW. This movie is a reminder of that phase of my life.
