Recap
To Marry or Not To Marry
Subi wants to get married, and does a lot of wazaif for the same, leading to funny altercations with different family members. His shennanigans annoy the Soomro family. Umer, in particular, thinks that he will never get married if Subi continues with his antics.
On the other hand, Aina hasn’t gotten married (hint: broken heart and deceived in the name of love) and doesn’t want Marvi to marry, either. Marvi is a die-hard romantic at heart and dreams of having a loving husband and children etc. Aina write TV drama script hoping it would get approved, but fails, which makes her bitter.
Run-in
Marvi goes for an interview and luck brings her face to face with Umer, our slightly arrogant-slash-narcissist hero. He shows off about his big car and his monies. When Marvi accidentally bumps up a car, they both get down. Marvi pretends that Umer is her husband. While the altercation is going on, she gets into the car and take off. I liked her choice. Smart girl.
Back home, khala bhanji bicker again about their take on marriage. Similarly, Umer bickers with Subi who lost his first wife in a bus accident.
Marvi finds Umer’s card in her car, and calls him. She meets Umer and Lubna, and flirts with Umer, full-on. Later, she confesses that she likes Umer. And the love story begins.
On their first date, Marvi let’s it slip that she had always wanted to marry a big jageerdaar. It made me think whether she really likes Umer or not. But the makers never tackle that aspect in the story. Telefilms don’t have enough time to delve into such details, I guess?
Rekindling
Subi runs into his ex-flame once (Aina, who else?) and there’s a funny scene that follows. Subi prays for himself (the prayer was funny) and Aina prays for herself (the prayers were heartfelt and serious). Both go to the dargah because apparently dua ghar pe nahin maang sakte? This time, they come face-to -face and get to talking.
Subi tells Aina why he couldn’t marry her: father forced him to marry someone.
Long story short, Aina comes home happy, worrying Marvi. Soon, a misunderstanding happens, leading to a tiff between Umer and Marvi.
Review
I liked it, Danish Nawaz has such impeccable comic timing.
I also liked the names of protagonists: Umer and Marvi. The names made me think: I started writing one novel with same names after I read a novel by Mohiuddin Nawab. It was a contemporary take on the folktale. I never got to finish writing it, because I wake up with three new ideas every day and pursue the new ones. Argh!
