Ayat e Sajda (Verse of Prostration)

The Ayat e Sajda (Verses of Prostration) are specific verses in the Quran that require Muslims to prostrate in prayer when recited. Here is the second Ayat e Sajda found in Surah Al-Nahl:

Arabic Script

فَمَن يُرِدِ اللَّهُ أَن يَهْدِيَهُ يَشْرَحْ صَدْرَهُ لِلْإِسْلَامِ ۖ وَمَن يُرِدْ أَن يُضِلَّهُ يَجْعَلْ صَدْرَهُ ضَيِّقًا حَرَجًا كَأَنَّمَا يَصَّعَّدُ فِي السَّمَاءِ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَجْعَلُ اللَّهُ الرِّجْسَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

 

Roman Transliteration

Famani yuridillahu an yahdiyah yashrah sadrahu lil-Islam. Wamani yurid an yudillah yaj‘al sadrahu dayyiqan harajan ka’annama yassa‘addu fis-samaa’. Kadalika yaj‘alullahu ar-rijsa ‘alal-ladheena la yu’minoon.

English Translation

“So, whoever Allah wants to guide, He expands his chest to [contain] Islam. And whoever He wants to leave astray, He makes his chest tight and constricted as though he were climbing into the sky. Thus, Allah places defilement upon those who do not believe.”
