Binge Watch 2025 | News Radio

This is literally me, except I need four more pillows around me.

Reason for Binging

For at least three months now, every few days, I see a short on my YouTube feed showing Jimmy and Melanie’s proposal/negotiation. One day, I was just thinking about it, and it appeared on my feed. It was so spooky.

And that’s when I decided to watch the show. Thanks to a few YouTubers who must have put in a lot of effort to make this available for people like me to watch for free.

Work frustration was the other reason I binged this show, as always. I needed something to keep my mind off work so I didn’t spiral into a pit of depression.

Reason for Choosing the Show

Jimmy, obvio!

About the Show News Radio

A news radio team with an eccentric owner and quirky employee;  their idiosyncracies often leading to comical outcomes.

Jimmy James: Owner, my favourite character

Dave Nelson: News Director, second favourite, but I often wanted to shake him and man-up, y’know?

Lisa Miller: The candidate for News Director, Dave’s on-and-off girlfriend

Beth: Dave’s secretary, she does everything else except her job. Not a big fan of her midrif-showing outfits

Bill McNeal: News co-anchor. Arrogant and full of himself, most annoying of the lot

Catherine Duke: News co-anchor. Hates Bill with all her might, and I’m with her.

Joe Garrelli: The electrician, more like patch-up guy

Matthew Brock: clumsy, naive, and yet so sure of himself. He can drive you nuts, even though he’s just a character.

My One-Line Takeaway

The news radio consisted of people who spend time on everything except their work, and the only sincere person is the boss (Dave Nelson). This drama did a good job of showing the reverse: when boss is right and employees are pain-in-the-a.

What I Liked

Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, Aa ja Aa ja Aa Ja

Jimmy was the absolute charmer in this one. His one-liners, showing off his wealth, weird logics, everything made him an absolute darling. I particularly loved his fast beat interactions, always  like tuc-tuc-tuc. The first one with Dave in men’s room where they talk about why Dave and Lisa are fighting. I guess this conversation was the inspiration of the popular Melanie-James proposal negotiation. And much later in the series, another nagotiation with Beth about profit sharing. But it didn’t hit as hard. I think it was because James was not in-charge of that conversation, and there were three people involved. It dampened the writing. If it was just James and Beth, it would have worked.

Physical Comedy

Although I’m not a big fan of physical comedy, this one is kinda exception. I loved every bit of physical comedy, especially one involving Joe picking up someone to escore them out.

#SoNotRelatable

I think most of my posts in 2025 have hinted at frustration at work, mostly at the hands of managers who think:

management = shouting + screaming + bullying

This series was kinda reverse. It showed how a nice boss is bullied by his employees. It was so not relatable but maybe something I needed to see…

To gain just a little perspective…

What Didn’t Work for Me

  • Beth’s outfits were outrageous at times and her character was quite inconsistent. At times, she was most suppostive and sincere, other times she acted like a child.

  • Mathew was too much at times

Viewing Experience

  • It’s medium on the binge-worthy scale, y’know? You can’t watch all the episodes in one go but you don’t feel like abondoning the series, either.

  • Generally light, very few emotional / intense scenes.

Favourite Character / Moment

Jimmy, hands down.

Who Should Watch It

  • Recommended for viewers who like to have something on the background when they focus on something else.

  • Not ideal for viewers who can be miffed with fictional characters as well

Verdict

🟢 Worth a Watch

Final Thoughts

I could do with some more episodes with those characters.

And that’s probably all the binges of this year.

So long.
