Mein Episode 8 Written Review

Assalamualaikum dear followers,

It’s Shabana Mukhtar back with the recap and review of the latest episode of Mein.

I’m running short on time-too many things to do, so little time. This review is going to be a lot of pictures to recap the episode, and then some rant from yours truly.

The Deal is Done

Just as we expected, Asif has struck a deal with Amir, and Amir plays the drama nicely. Just before storming out of the house, the two stand face-to-face. It’s almost as if Asif is appreciating Amir’s performance. Hehe.

This is how disturbed Zaid is, after what has happened. He still can’t believe that he has been rejected.

Kashmala tries to talk Zaid out of it–out of marrying Ayera. At first, she talks like Asif, being class concious and all, but then, she suggests the silliest thing.

Kashmala: Leave your family, go and marry her in court

Shabaash meri bacchi, badi ho kar bahot naam kamaogi. Aur sasural mein izzat bhi, hehe.

Amir is upset to have broken Ayera’s heart, but what choice did he have when Asif threatened to “torture” Ayera and Asiya.

Later that night, after a repeated voiceover of every scene, Zaid finally comes to meet Ayera. You know, to act on Kashmala’s advice.

Zaid: Come with me. We will get married in court and leave our families.

Ayera be like: No, can’t do, babe.

So, the age-old question pops up–love or family, choose one.

Ayera is like: I don’t want to anwer that question.

Seriously, though. The way she asked Zaid to go, and that she can’t leave her family lacked conviction. I wasn’t convinced, nor did Zaid.

But he leaves.

Kya kare bechara?

Haye Dil Becharaaa…

~

Asiya is upset by Amir’s act and demands and answer. But Amit is being cryptic about it.

Amir: Jab nuqsan hona hi muqaddar hai toh bade nuqsan ke badle chhota nuqsan ko chunna hi behtar hota hai.

I paraphrase, of course.

~

Zaid is so furstrated that he goes to Asif’s room and accepts defeat.

Zaid: I want to marry Mubashshara as soon as possible.

And the triumphant smile on Asif’s face says it all.

Asif be like: yeh round toh main jeet gaya.

~

Ayera hears about Zaid’s marriage, and is confused. Oh, pained, I meant.

She looks defeated, so Asiya comes to comfort her. This is Ayera’s opporunity to lash at Amir and Asiya and nullify every act of kindness they have done for her.

Ayera: If my parents were alive, they wouldn’t let this happen

Bas kya?

But then, Amir gets a promotion and all and rejects it all. He comes home and tells Asiya everything. Ayera conveniently overhears and steps out to tell Zaid the truth. Amir tries to stop her, but she isn’t the kind to be stopped (if you know what I mean, ahem. Khudsar ladkiyan aisi hi hoti hain.)

Oh, and she still blames everything on Amir, because, her claim is that Zaid would have fixed everything.

Yeah, right!

~

I will skip over the part of wedding preparations. While Kashmala is a chill bride who approves most of the things, Mubashshara keeps on telling:

Mujhe sab se khoobsoorat aur different dikhna hai, kuch aur dikhao

Honestly, I began to hyperventillate just watching her on my mobile screen. Allah aisi hastiyon se mujhe zindagi bhar bachaye rakhe, ameen.

And then there is the nikaah setup, all cheerful and grand.

And then they all say “ameen” loudly, concluding the nikaah ceremony. Only after that, Zaid looks up to find Ayera staring at him.

So cliche.

Review

Alright, first up, apologies for a late recap and review. Life’s keeping me busy otherwise. I liked this episode overall, even though it was predictable AF. There are a couple of comments I have, though.

  1. Ayera’s character and Azikeh’s portrayal of Ayera, both annoy me. I don’t know why. I guess perhaps because Azikeh’s expressions don’t reach her eyes. Her delivery seems a little off? I am not sure what it is, but that’s one thing that bothers me.
  2. Ayeza is superb in her role. She shines when she lets the “devil” in her slip out. Love her.
  3. Shahnawaz is suave as usual, and his personality fits the role perfectly.
  4. It is, however, Aijaz Aslam who wins the best performance. Bruh, he is so controlled in his expressions and still strikes the cord perfectly.

Until next time, fellow drama addicts! Stay tuned for more twists, turns, and reviews that’ll leave you craving for the next episode like a kid at a candy store.
