So, episode 16 is here. Since I had kinda given up on this novel and hadn’t read an episode in the past year and a half, I had the next episode ready as soon as I finished reading and reviewing episode 15.
For a refresher course, check old episodes. Since I barely recall anything except for a few character names, here is a recap:
Maala Episode 16 Recap & Review Thought Dump
- Non linear narrative is back amd we learn how and when nageena learned jaadu and married sultan. Ziyad himself is a product of Sehr e ishq
- Mahir maala hilal all sketch, even faces. Apan ko yeh allowed nahin hai islam mein
- Mahir still doesn’t know about nageena being Sarkar
He goes to meet ziyad - Maala does a deal with ziyad hilal for her. She’s will get back with ziyad of ziyad sends hilal back to mahir
- Then he knows, Mahi tells him about nageena and he deduces being Sarkar
- I liked, loved how nemrah drops one easter eggs after the other, one cliffhanger after the other malik is hiding something. Nageena was writing something but mahir didn’t read it,
- Loved the illusion twist.
My favourite line:
yeh aise hi maktoob thha
- I know what I said in the previous review. And I noted two things together. 1. Nemrah throws a curve ball our way and does what we don’t expect 2. Even so, the slightest hint of saying abortion is permissible under certain circumstances (parking aside the major sin that it is) was wrong. That Maala was aborting the child to save herself from a bigger evil, meri toh nahin samajh aayi yeh baat. Maahi kept on saying that “tumhein fatwa mil jayega.” If this was author’s way of criticizing how people today seek fatwa relentlessly from various Darulifta unless they get an answer of their choice. I don’t know what was going on in her mind, but yeh baat mujhe bilkul acchi nahin lagi.
Anyway, glad how it panned out.
- And now that baby of sehr e ishq is missing
