Kashf | Episode 1 | Intriguing Yet Unimpressive Kickstart

I am least bit interested in reviewing this drama. I did not like the trailer. The premise feels boring, too. But, my sister wants me to review this, so here goes.

If you’re new to this drama and interested in knowing the characters and previous episodes’ reviews, and you should, read here. It will help you understand the story better.

PLOT SUMMARY & COMMENTARY

The episode begins with a dream sequence. When Kashf wakes up, the muazzan is saying azaan.

It is interesting to see that the entire family wakes up at the break of dawn.

Kashf’s grandma is typical mother-in-law and keeps taunting Dilshad for no reason at all.

Kashf’s phupho is the only earning member. She’s the epitome of positivity and a big support for Kashf. They almost look the same age, no?

Wajdan, Kashf’s next door neighbour and tayazad bhai is engaged to her. Rasheda, his mother isn’t happy about this engagement. Big surprise! This angle is very common in “engaged to cousin” stories. Very convenient and very boring.

Kashf’s sisters Iram and Zoya make fun of her dreams. There is another trope – Dilshad has three daughters and her husband and mother-in-law are perpetually unhappy about it.

Kashf walks through graveyard and recalls her dream about roses.

Shumaila is kind and lubna Aslam is awful.

She dreams about shumaila and the dream becomes a reality. Lubna beats

PARTING THOUGHTS

I think I have an overdose of Hira Salman.

Junaid Khan’s first scene when he’s trying to get Kashf’s attention is long and boring and annoying. He looks overweight, too.

I am not sure if it was my reluctance to watch this drama or this was boring AF, I did not enjoy is much.

But there are some good bits, too.

I like Aashi’s explanation about dreams.

  • It is either good news that Allah gives to His dear bandey.
  • Our unfulfilled wishes and burdens take form of a dream
  • Or the devil manipulates us

Waseem Abbas plays the same role he played in Zindagi Gulzar Hai, except he takes the level of meanness several notches higher. A very impressive performance. Even their kitchen looks similar to the one Kashaf had in Zindagi Gulzar Hai. Anyone?

Munazza Arif’s without makeup look brings about the terrific actor she is. Hajra Khan and Sameena Ahmad have the strongest characters, in my humble opinion.

How about you? How did you like the first episode of Kashf?
