So, another drama is starting today–Badzaat. I don’t have high expectations from this drama as you can read in this post, but I will give a try nonetheless. Wednesday is relatively free in terms of reviews, so, why not?
Badzaat Episode 1 Written Update and Review
We meet Wali, and learn about his childhood. He was a neglected child of a mother who never had time for him and instead chose to focus on her singing/dancing career. That and the title Badzaat has made him into a bitter man who pulls a gun every now and again.
We meet Danyal and Huda who are either engaged or like each other.
And then we meet Anabiya who is easily scared and cries on cue–a characteristic that wins Wali’s heart instantly. The episode ends with Wali developing feelings for Anabiya, already.
Seriously? He met her like three times and for less than a minute each. Okay, so we are dealing with love at third sight. Bhai waah!
Review
This episode did a fine job at introducing all the characters. And we all know how Wali is, and why he is the way he is. Full marks on that.
But I do have one complaint.
The episode was so loud. I hated the background score, more like loud noise throughout the episode.
Why do drama makers rely on loud background score to make things more dramatic? Why can’t they rely on the story for dramtic effects? Yesterday, I watched Badshah Begum and now this… To all the drama makers, this is a humble request: Background score pe hath haula rakhein, please.
Performances
Saba Faisal looked good as a singer/dancer, but I have a feeling that her character will be over-dramatic.
Zoya Nasir’s role as model/actor Ainy suits her personality, and she did okay in the two scenes that she was in.
Others have done okay for their limited role.
Now, let’s come to the main lead–Wali Asfand.
Imran Ashraf might have chosen a role that finally makes me not be a fangirl of him. This drama seemed like what Aye Musht-e-Khak is for Feroze Khan. Such a bummer! I was never a fan of Feroze Khan but Imran Ashraf has been a fav since Dillagi, especially his portrayal of Bhola in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi was soooo good.
