Kuch Ankahi Finale Episode

I have been meaning to write about this ever since the drama ended, and

Where do I begin?

Let’s start at the start. The drama was announced, I was psyched to see Bilal, and the synopsis promised to handle a bunch of social issues, so I was thrilled to follow this drama toll the end…
However…

I had my reservations against Aliya from the very first episode. As much as I like Sajal and commend her acting prowess, her character, her portrayal of the character and her hairstyle, just didn’t resonate with me. I liked Samia but her track was so melancholic and depressing. Shagufta was a delight in one scene and downright sadist in another. Zareena Begum was no prize to watch, either. Saif was such a meek and spineless man. Even though everyone did full justice to their roles,

As the drama progressed, the subplots became too much to handle. The property dispute, the child molestation, the greedy saas, the sautan angle, the professional rivalry, the social media stardom, the journalists’ integrity, the second chance in love, the sibling tiff, the familial quarrels… I’m out of breath just listing these. Watching them added to my stress rather than giving me a window into escapism.

So, I called quits.

YouTube kept reminding and recommending me to watch the episode every Saturday but I kept ghosting it, haha.

Cut to several weeks later.

three weeks ago, when the drama aired the last episode… I was working late. Like really late, 1:30 am. To drown the noise coming from neighbours house, i played this clip. I only wanted to see what they have done to this trainwreck.

We first watch some recap to bring us upto speed. Azfar (or Asfar? It’s never clear) and Salman talk, both claiming to love Aliya more, both sounding right, and both also sounding desperate. I think the team wanted to make it like a Sophie’s choice, but it was so freaking confusing to watch. I mean, for me it is easier to pick side (always Bilal Abbas compared to Shehryar Munawwar) but both characters were equally good and they were fighting for Aliya whom I didn’t like in the first place. In a love triangle, there should be a clear winner, is all I’m saying. And I know that it could be an unpopular opinion.

Safiya runs away on the day of ejr wedding, again. And Thanvi just knows where to find her. At the railway station. Apparently the chai wala also knows that they will be chit chatting so he gives them tea and didn’t even take money. I think Thanvi usko bol ke ayaa rahega ki bhai 2 cup chai toh le aa.

Now, they are like:

Safiya: blah blah blah, I’m not ready for this
Thanvi: blah blah blah, I will wait as I have waited until now.

Salman tells Aliya that he met Asfar, and how the meeting transpired. Aliya also tells him about her conversation with Asfar. Long story short, Aliya nonchalantly allows Salman to put a ring on Aliya’s finger.

Thik hai, pehna do.

Behen, itna bhi kya sada munh banaya hai. Say no if you don’t like Salman.

In a series of conversations between this trio, it came up an awful lot of times that “Aliya ki aankhein bolti hain”. I think the story was custom-made for Sajal because… But I was like: her eyes do the talking but her character should also be a little expressive. I geddit… She was buried under a ton of responsibilities but people who are responsible still have some outlet for their emotions.

And the drama ends as everyone is dancing and all at phupho’s wedding.

The end.
