Alif Episode 1

Alif is not just a book or drama. It is a phenomenon that makes Pakistani Drama viewers crazy. The first episode aired on 5th October. It lives up to the expectation. Here is my review for the same.

Plot Summary

The episode begins with a qirat of Surah Noor. I think it was Sami Yusuf. I haven’t checked yet.
We see young Qalb-e-Momin writing a letter to Allah. And another letter, and then another. The scene switches to Karachi and we see Momin dealing with Shelly. Momin is doing auditions for his upcoming movie. He humiliates her and she talks back.

The proposal scene (Momin proposing Neha) is changed from the novel, not as romantic or dramatic as it was in the book.

Review

The novel was written for screen adaptation and is used as is for the drama, almost. I liked the pace, too. I watch it on 1.5x anyways.

The exposition is good. A lot of characters are already revealed, leaving Taha, Abul Alaa and Master Ibrahim from the main characters.

I have said this before and I will say it again. Kubra isn’t suitable for Husn-e-Jahan.
Salim Mairaj nails it as Sultan. It is a nice change from Deewar-e-Shab. By the way, has Sajal put on weight? She looks chubby.

The beautiful landscapes of Turkey can blow your mind and Umera’s characters come alive on screen. I am excited for second episode. Stay tuned for more.

What did others think of this episode? Did it disappoint you? Does anything come as a pleasant surprise?
