Drama Review | Qissa Meherbano Ka | Episode 19

Let’s review the latest episode of Qissa Meherbano Ka. It’s based on Fakhra Jabeen’s short story Ujalon Ki Basti. You can read the story here, and my review is here. The drama is quite different from the story itself, so don’t be disheartened by my review even if it has some spoilers.

A little recap of episode 18

Acchey Miyan gives Mehrbano something that would abort her child. Mehrbano is saved, but Murad thinks that it was Mehrbano’s own doing.

Qissa Meherbano Ka Episode 19 Written Review

Mehrbano confronts khadoos aunty, but that aunty doesn’t relent so easily. She is one of those people who have no redemption arc, in fiction, or in real life. She’s one of those people who are a living example of the idiom – kuttey ki dum. No offense, aunty ji. I’m not calling you a dog, just the tail :-p

Will Murad ever find out what his own mother is doing? Besides, we don’t want Murad to find out anything. Even if he finds out, what is he going to do? He is such a disgusting man.

Noor accidentally finds Mehrbano’s jewellery in Fari’s room. That’s a positive change this drama needs.

Talking of good news… Mehrbano is blessed with a baby boy. Chalo, mithayi khao jee.

I just love, love, love that despite all her hatred for Mehrbano, Fari doesn’t leave Mehrbano’s side when she needed help.

And the biggest news is that Ayaz calls Mehrbano Mehu phupho. Bas bhai, isi din ka intezaar thha.

Maria is such a sweet person. She knows that Mehran loves Mehrbano, and yet, she still doesn’t break the ties. Why? Because she has fallen in love with Mehran.

Arrey yaar!

I was shipping Mehran with Mehrbano. Ab Maria is also in picture.

That’s not fair.

The best scene for me was Mehrbano talking to Ayaz and handing over her jewellery. She is angry and vulnerable and hopeful all at the same time. That one look changed Ayaz’s mind, I guess. He has seen Mehrbano suffer mental and physical torture, and he never budged. Ab finally,, he has taken on the responsibility of looking after Meru and Noor.

Ayaz and Noor have a couple of scenes, and they make for a enviable on-screen couple. They have great chemistry and their romance isn’t in your face. You know they like each other, but it’s not out there. So so good. I wish they would get more scenes, but it isn’t their story as much it is Mehrbano’s. That’s where it differs from the novel this drama is based on. Ujalon Ki Basti Mein is about Noor, from her POV as she talks about her Munni khala. This drama is about khala herself. I would have loved it better if Noor was the narrator.

Khushhal Khan, oh my goodness… How talented this young man is. It would be unfair to not mention Mashal Khan, Mawra Hocane, Areej Mohiuddin and Ahsan Khan. Superb acting by everyone.
