Tere Bin | Episode 20

Introduction

Tere Bin is a new drama on HAR PAL GEO (Well, it’s not that new). Here’s a snippet from Geo’s official YouTube channel.

Meerab is an ambitious and beautiful young girl who wants to pursue higher studies. Her entire world revolves around her parents and she believes in them the most. Her strong and confident personality makes her stand against social injustices around her.

On the contrary, Murtasim hails from a powerful and influential family. He respects and values the morals and traditions of his family and refuses to let the family down.

Meerab’s life takes an unexpected turn when she finds out about her family’s decision regarding her and Murtasim’s life. Meerab’s hatred towards Murtasim continues to grow as a family secret from the past resurfaces. Coming from different backgrounds and mindsets, Murtasim begins to realize Meerab’s arrogant behaviour towards him and begins to consider her a challenge for himself. On the other hand, Meerab who is used to living her life on her own terms refuses to accept Murtasim’s family traditions and unnecessary social barriers.

Soon their lives go through a series of emotional sufferings and misunderstandings where it becomes difficult for them to coexist. Despite their hatred towards each other, will Meerab and Murtasim accept their true feelings or will the dynamics of ego and self-respect force them to stay apart?

Tere Bin Episode 20 Written Update and Review

The “Tere Bin” magic is back as we see plenty of #Meerasim. There is angst, there is romance, there is possessiveness and there is more romance. The last ten minutes are just Meerub and Murtasim.

I don’t even have enough words to say how exhilarated I am to see them back together. Looking at the rate in which conflicts are resolved in this drama, I knew episode 20 would be back on the track of “happily ever after”. This time, the resolution credit goes to “Maryam” who cleared the air with her wise words.

Meerub and Murtasim sitting on a tree…

There were more of typical Haya moments, but let’s not talk about it.

Review

I would like to take a moment here and appreciate Wahaj’s expressions. The way he speaks, the way he looks at Yumna, the way he swallows when Meerub touched Murtasim’s hand, and the way he shook his head when Meerub asked: bahot takleef hai… Uff… It almost seems like he is in love, for real.

And I have rarely seen a more stupid heroine than Meerub. I mean, her husband is confessing his love, he’s showing her the “solution” to all her problems, and she is unperturbed while womenkind of two nations (almost) are going weak in their knees to see such a caring husband.

Also, the whole “Anwar stopping Murtasim” angle was a little bit flawed, almost out of nowhere. Salma Begum asked Meerub to leave, Murtasim didn’t. Why is Anwar misdirecting his anger on our hero? That would now be the new conflict.

Some Rant

Lastly, something that has been bothering me since last night. I saw an interview, the director Siraj-ul-Haq talking about these lead characters. The interviewer kept asking psuedo-feminist questions like, what’s Meerub’s fault? Uske saath na-insafi huyi hai… Need I say that I have a problem with that line of thinking?

I was like, the only issue Meerub has is that she “once” didn’t want to get married. Now, with a husband like Murtasim who is like wall of strength to protect her from all things evil, she should be happy. Speaking of her ambitions to study law, why hasn’t she asked Murtasim about continuing her studies?

Let’s face it. Meerub is surrounded by problems that she has created herself, and she’s also a victim of self-pity. And that’s the narrative of this drama. Let’s not try to twist and make it into something else. This is a love story between a man and his wife. This isn’t a tussle of egos and power. Let’s not reduce the drama to that.

And finally, Tere Bin is going strong as ever. I can’t wait to see the next episode.

That’s the episode. I guess I’m done for the day. How you peeps doing?
