Movie Review: Load Wedding

Review

I watched this movie in April, only to kill time and  had no intentions of writing a post about it. But then, I had a nagging feeling that I am forgetting something.

The movie was released on Eid-ul-Adha 2018. It is a romantic social comedy, something the director-writer duo  Nabeel Qureshi and Fizza Ali Meerza have specialize in. I mean, the same team – Nabeel, Fizza, Fahad and Mehwish have worked in Na Maloom Afraad and Actor in Law previously. Nabeel likes to collaborate with same actors frequently, it seems, as noted here.

The story is about Raja (Fahad Mustafa) and Meeru (Mehwish Hayat). Raja likes her since childhood, noticing her when her bangles are broken, and secretly gifts her a new set. The bangles’ gift soon become a routine as Raja continues to adore her, silently, secretly.

Meeru gets married and widowed, and thus attracting unwanted and unfair criticism. It is a very traditional desi trope, but true nonetheless, that if a groom dies soon after marriage, it is the bride’s fault. People don’t let the widow to participate in anything fearing that she would cast the bad luck on them as well. Sad, but true!

The other social angle, although dealt in a light mood is Raja’s sister Baby Baji. Played by Faiza Hasan, Farhana aka Baby Baji is obese, getting older and is dying to get married. Raja faces opposition from his family when opens up about his interest in Meeru.

The cast has done justice to their roles. Samina Ahmad is perfect as Raja’s mother. Khalil chacha (Noor-ul-Hasan) as Raja’s uncle does his job well. I particularly like Mohsin Abbas Haider as young Khalil when Khalil reminisces about his past. I am a huge Mohsin fan, guys.

It is a nice and fun movie still leaving an impact on viewers.

What did you guys think of this series?

Happy watching!
