Pyari Mona | Episode 12

Introduction

The story of #PyariMona revolves around the main lead Mona, an overachiever, strong and courageous girl who excels in everything she does but, being a plus-sized person, Mona has to face challenges, problems, provocations and taunts just because she doesn’t meet the conventional standards of beauty set by our society. The serial highlights body shamming, bullying, harassment and its social and mental implications on the victim in a society with unrealistic expectations from women and stringent standards of beauty. Pyari Mona is an unconventional and interesting story of Mona as she navigates through her life. Written by Haseeb Ahmed, directed by Ali Hassan and produced under the banner of Momina Duraid Productions, the serial also features Mashal Khan, Adnan Jafer, Muhammad Hunbal, Naureen Mumtaz, Uzma Baig, Shaheen Khan and others.

Pyari Mona Episode 12  Written Update and Review

Assalam Alaikum my lovely readers!

It’s me, Shabana Mukhtar, here to review the latest episode of “Pyari Mona”. And let me tell you, this episode was a rollercoaster ride of emotions – mostly eye rolls.

The Ad Modelling

So, Z and Babar are out for a shoot and Babar’s assistant suggests that Babar should do the ad since there is no male model available. And guess what, Babar agrees. Now, I’m not saying that it’s wrong for Babar to model, but what I am saying is that there’s something fishy going on here. I mean, come on, why couldn’t they just postpone the shoot until they find a male model? Is Babar trying to show off to Z? Or is Z trying to show off to Babar? Either way, it’s making me uncomfortable.

The fact that Babar went out of this way to bring Z onboard this campaign itself is bothersome.

The Flirting

And the flirting, oh my! Z is flirting with Babar, full-on. And, Babar is reciprocating, full-on. He even suggests that Z and him should go out, because he isn’t happy with his marriage. Later, though, he slides it under the rug as a “joke”. Now, I’m not a marriage counselor or anything, but I’m pretty sure that joking about extra-marital affairs is not a good sign. What kind of message is this drama trying to send? Is it okay to cheat on your spouse as long as you make it seem like a joke? I’m rolling my eyes so hard right now, they might get stuck.

Mona’s Visit to Lahore

On the other hand, Mona and Ayan are visiting Lahore to attend a wedding. Mona also visits Irfan, much to Irfan’s mother’s disappproval. Kinza, however, is thrilled to see Mona. Isn’t she the sweetest? It’s nice to see some positive interactions in this drama. But, I can’t help but wonder what will happen next. Will Mona and Irfan start something? Or will Mona realize that she loves Babar? I’m not sure what to expect anymore.

Late Review?

Why is this review so late? Because I didn’t know what to make of it. When this drama began, it was about body shaming, depression, how we aim for perfection and reject everything/everyone else. Now, it is about extra-marital affairs, presumably on both sides. I mean, there is nothing between Mona and Irfan right now, but who knows? And that lecherous Babar is hitting on a model with zero ethical values. I roll my eyes, and then I roll my eyes some more.

As I already said, I don’t know what to make of this drama. So, I might be abandoning this as well, but I will give next episode a try before calling quits. I’m quitting dramas left, right and center. Why not this one? Maybe the next episode will bring something new to the table, something that will make me want to keep watching. Or maybe it will just make me roll my eyes even harder. We’ll see. Until then, stay tuned for my next review.

So long!
