Mein Episode 9 Written Review

Assalamualaikum dear followers,

It’s Shabana Mukhtar back with the recap and review of the latest episode of Mein.

I’m running short on time-too many things to do, so little time. This review is going to be a lot of pictures to recap the episode, and then some rant from yours truly.

The Kalash

So, the nikaah has happened and then Zaid looks up to find Ayera staring at him. Everyone is staring at Ayera. Asif forbids Zaid from going after Ayera, but he does.

Ayera tells Zaid about the “deal” that was forced upon Amir. She asks Zaid to check the CCTV footage of his office to confirm that Amir had met Asif. However, her words kinda ticked me off.

Ayera: Our families did this to us.

Seriously? Are you kidding me?

Your brother did this to save your sorry life and you blame him? Is love really above self respect?

I might  be overacting here because I never liked Ayera. To be honest, I don’t think Ayera is meant to be a likable character.

Zaid just takes off, without bothering about his new bride, who can’t control her temper.

Vulnerability Personified

Despite herself, Mubashshara is kinda forced into rukhsati. She repeatedly demands that she wouldn’t do rukhsati unless Zaid comes back, but I think she has suffered enough embarassment already, and didn’t want to create another social uproar.

Just look at her face-the perfect mix of angst and vulnerability. Ayeza Khan is the ultimate queen of expressions.

Asif brings his bahu home, who is now quite composed and kinda back into her element.

She calmly tells Asif about her intentions.

Mubashshara: If I am not happy, I won’t allow happiness even cross your daughter’s way.

I paraphrase, of course. I don’t remember all the dialogues right now.

Ruining the Moment

And then Mubashshara comes home, ruins the moment between Rayan and Kashmala. She sets camp there, forcing the bride to be on the call duty while the groom just waits for a resolution.

Rebel Arrives

Zaid finally comes home. Asif is anxiously waiting for him. Zaid doesn’t even stop to talk to his father, no matter how harshly Asif asks Zaid to stop.

REBEL ON THE WAY…

Broken Zaid

And this is the guy who has lost his love and his trust is broken by his own father. Great acting by Wahaj-vulnerable, wanting to cry but controlling the tears all the same.

The night is over, Kashmala is tired, Rayan is restless and Mubashshara finally leaves their room.

Do they get to relax now?

Not yet?

Kashmala is still dialling Zaid’s number, and they both rub their restless eyes. This scene was the best scene of this episode. Poor souls!

Guilt Trip

The next morning, Zaid is talking to someone to book a ticket. Asif first tries to guilt-trip Zaid into settling down with Mubashshara to save Kashmala’s marriage. He admonishes his son for not taking a stand for Kashmala, but Zaid doesn’t react. Finally, Asif plays his trump card.

Asif: Meet Kashmala once before you go

Zaid agrees, only to meet Kashmala, give her a hug and take the first flight he gets out of Pakistan.

Unexpected Turn of Events

At Kashmala’s house, though, the picture is painted differently. Kashmala informs her new in-laws that Zaid is coming to take Mubashshara home.

When Zaid tries to hug his sister goodbye, Kashmala doesn’t let him.

Kashmala: If you had to run away, why did you agree to this nikaah?

Fair question, I would say.

Review

Alright, first up, apologies for a late recap and review. My life’s going crazy these days. This episode was a whirlwind, if you ask me, and I have covered most of it in the recap. Here, I want to talk about the one thing that stood out in this episode.

Rayan’s weird sibling bond with Mubashshara…

It’s not new. We have seen it earlier when he teased Mubashshara for needing a psychiatrist, or when Jaafar discussed his wedding before Mubashshara’s. But, we also saw him telling Mubashshara why Zaid would be a good match. In this episode, he lets Mubashshara ruin their wedding night.

Rayan: It’s Mubashshara wedding night, too.

Badi hi koi ajeeb-o-ghareeb type ki relationship hai donon ki.

And that’s all I wanted to say. Did y’all find it weird?

Until next time, fellow drama addicts! Stay tuned for more twists, turns, and reviews.
